The discussion lately about image stabilisation with selenium toning has become rather tedious. To increase the archival permanence of an image, there are other undoubtedly better methods available: gold toner, sulfur toner, or Adostab, for example. But even a very light selenium toning is better for archival permanence than nothing at all! And fine-art printers use selenium toner for different reasons altogether. This toner inceases the density of the shadow areas. Regardless of the dilution and temperature of the toner, the areas of high silver density will always be affected first.
